The landscaping-supply professionals led by Tim Wallace have been equipping Warrenville (IL) homeowners with the materials they need for their gardens and lawns for decades. Now operating as Tim Wallace Soil Mix Supply, we are seeing more and more Warrenville customers creating their own at-home “farm-stand gardens.”
They’re doing so for very good reason. Those who properly develop their own gardens find out that grocery-store produce just can’t compare with the texture and taste of organic homegrown food.
When you cultivate your own vegetable garden in Warrenville, beyond relishing the results, you know exactly where the food came from, how it was cultivated and what was used in growing it. You also know how much time has elapsed from harvest to table. Once the results are in, most people agree that homegrown produce is worth the effort.
You can likewise establish a lush, green lawn for your Warrenville home – without costly commercial chemical treatments that lack in performance while raising safety questions.
Status-quo fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides can similarly leave many homeowners wondering why their lawn doesn’t resemble the one in the brochure.
With Tim Wallace Soil Mix Supply, you can know what you’re putting into your lawn and garden and why. We support you with the ideas, advice and materials for successful projects that inspire what is possible for you in Warrenville.
Soil: The Right Start for Your Warrenville Yard
A lawn, landscape or garden won’t flourish unless the soil is correct. For many of us at the start, we might think that adding topsoil and planting seeds will get the growing started. The truth is that different applications require different soil properties – gardens, lawns and landscape won’t develop as we wish without them.
With Tim Wallace Soil Mix Supply, you have access to the materials with the correct properties for growth success. Your soil blends also arrive to you ready-for-use – they’re already mixed!
To ensure accuracy and excellence, we move your soil mix through our four-step blending process at our onsite soil-mixing facility, the only one of its kind in the region.
– Gather the specific materials from their covered and enclosed bins
– Pile them in our mixing bin and turn them over several times with an end-loader
– Mechanically process the mix in our diesel-powered pulverizer
– Move your blended soil mix on the pulverizer’s conveyor belt up to where it drops the finished blend into the truck bed for delivery to you!
Garden Soil Warrenville (IL): What Are the Vital Elements?
The optimal soil blend for your particular project needs to embody the following three central components.
Primary planting media: plenty of quality topsoil (black dirt)
Moisture control: lots of organic matter for storing sufficient moisture for the roots
Organic fertilizer: vigorous organic material such as compost for adding vital nutrients to the mix for good soil health
Soil for Warrenville (IL) Gardens & Lawns: Most Popular
Here at Tim Wallace Soil Mix Supply, we’ve created garden soil blends that are already prepared to perfect your lawn or farm-stand garden with the ideal ratio of premium materials. They are among our Warrenville customers’ favorite materials!
Tim’s Original Garden Mix: 50% topsoil, 25% organic compost, 25% fine sand
Mixing compost with topsoil and fine sand provides balanced bedding for vegetables. This soil mix gives your garden the best of all worlds, as topsoil offers a healthy home for roots with lots of water, compost provides a nutrient boost and sand supports soil porosity and water retention. You can also use this blend as a topdressing for your Warrenville lawn!
Enriched Vegetable Garden Mix: 50% topsoil, 50% composted horse manure
Topsoil helps sustain plant life by remaining nutrient-dense. Farmers also favor horse manure because composting it super-charges the compost pile while increasing soil fertility, regeneration and high-quality yields. Our composted horse manure is aged and turned regularly to establish its subtle, noteworthy character.
Because it is nitrogen-rich, horse manure also benefits non-flowering plants such as garden vegetables. The composted horse manure has its own water-retention quality as well, so our Enriched Vegetable Garden Mix requires no sand.
Raised Bed Mix: 50% topsoil, 25% coarse sand, 25% organic compost
Gardening magazine’s trial of the best soil mixes for raised beds revealed that a blend of 50% topsoil, 25% coarse sand and 25% compost is ideal. Although heavy to place in the bed, the mix didn’t settle much and was simple to dig. In addition, weeding by hand was easy, soil fertility was good and the beds produced the maximum yield.
With greater drainage qualities, the coarse sand in the blend makes a dense soil such as clay more porous. Tomatoes, flowers and root vegetables (e.g. beets, radishes) are examples of plants that can thrive in soil with coarse sand.
Organic compost (a by-product of recycled materials such as leaves, vegetable scraps and small twigs) turns into a rich soil amendment that gardeners call “Black Gold.” It is the perfect compost amendment for your raised garden bed.
The topsoil in the Raised Bed Mix also contains its own blend of nutrients for healthy plants. This product is by far one of our most popular mixes for Warrenville customers.
Premium Compost Mix: 50% mushroom compost, 50% organic compost
Over time, garden soil will lose crucial nutrients. Without them, plant growth, production and health will be affected. You can maintain fertile soil that’s high in organic components by re-applying compost every two or three years.
Our Premium Compost Mix is a robust blend of two organics that will rejuvenate and energize your garden. Because it has no topsoil, the blend should be added only to existing gardens with sufficient black dirt. Some of our Warrenville customers even use the Premium Compost Mix in their landscape beds with great success.
If you use mulch around plants and shrubs, it will eventually deprive underlying soil of nitrogen. This can be remedied by adding a 1″ layer of the Premium Compost Mix before you spread your mulch. This will help naturally fertilize plants, trees and shrubs.
Nationally Recognized Purple Cow
Purple Cow Classic Compost is a proven, time-tested way you can add constructive microbes, carbon and balanced nutrients to your vegetable garden soil.
Organic and fully plant-based, Purple Cow enhances soil structure and porosity, making it an excellent asset for plant roots. It also:
reinforces nutrient retention and use
reduces nutrient loss caused by leaching
includes humus for greater soil aggregation and nutrient availability for the plant
Because even the best compost can dry out quickly, mixing it with topsoil and sand establishes the balanced media needed for lawns and the right bedding for flowers and vegetable plants.
Our premium soil blends provide three pivotal benefits for your garden:
Topsoil: a healthy home for roots with plenty of water
Purple Cow Compost: a healthy boost of nutrients
Sand: water control and soil porosity

Warrenville (IL) Quick Facts
Warrenville was founded in 1833 when Julius Warren and his family moved west from New York seeking a fresh start from a failing gristmill and distillery. Daniel Warren, Julius’ father, claimed land at what is now McDowell Woods, and Julius claimed land at what is now the Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve. The city’s first major establishment, an inn and tavern, was built in 1838 by Julius Warren himself, as the family was skilled in timber and grain. The inn still stands today (the Warren Tavern on 2nd Street). It also was renovated in 2002. (Source: kiddle.co)
